Biological Actions of CT
The importance of CT in calcium homeostasis has not been fully established in humans. Whereas an excess or deficiency of PTH or calcitriol causes dramatic clinical pathology, an excess or deficiency of CT produces few changes in mineral balance. Perhaps this can be explained by the suggestion that CT is produced by cells located in other organs. Only future experiments will solve this dilemna.
The mechanism of action of CT is through cAMP.
