Off Campus MCG Users
Register for Library (patron) barcode
  • The Library barcode on the MCG ID serves as your personal identification number for library services and provides off-campus access to library resources.

  • The student’s Library barcode is imbedded on the front of the MCG ID; other MCG patrons must register for a Library barcode at the Library Information Center before accessing resources from off-campus.

  • The Library Information Center (706-721-3441) is located near the Library entrance– the Greenblatt Library is designated as building AB on campus maps

  • The library barcode may also be referred to as the “patron barcode.

Obtain the GALILEO / proxy server password
To access subscribed Library and GALILEO resources from off-campus, a proxy server password and a MCG GALILEO password are required.

The proxy server password and the GALILEO password are the same, and change four times per year. To receive the password: Access from off-campus
The instructions to access resources through the proxy server and GALILEO from off-campus are available from the tutorial above or from the library website.

Assistance with Library resources
  • Contact the Library Information Center (706-721-3441) during operating hours for assistance with library resources and services.

  • Ask A Reference Question service is monitored by medical librarians Monday through Friday to answer brief, non-urgent health-related questions by email.

Searching Library resources
  • The Library maintains and links to several tutorials in a variety of formats designed to aid in searching Library resources.

  • You may ask a librarian to search the medical literature for a fee with the Mediated Searching service

Searching for full-text journal articles
Try these strategies for locating full-text journal articles (a tutorial is available):
  • When available, download full-text articles from database search results such as Ovid MEDLINE, PubMed, and Ovid CINAHL.

  • With citation information, search ePublications, the finding aid to most of the Library’s electronic journal collection containing thousands of in-scope journal titles.

  • If the library does not hold a journal article or book title electronically or in print, McGILL is the Greenblatt Library’s document delivery service; fill out an ILL Requesting Form to have the Greenblatt Library obtain an article from another library for a nominal fee.

  • Search the GIL Universal Catalog to locate journal holdings from nearby University System of Georgia libraries for personal on-site visit and self-service photocopying.

GIL@MCG and the Universal Catalog
  • Search GIL@MCG, the Library’s online catalog to find journal articles and books in the Greenblatt Library’s print collections.

  • If a book is not available in the Greenblatt Library, follow the GIL Universal Catalog link in GIL@MCG to search for a circulating book from another University System of Georgia library; that book may be borrowed through the Express service, by walk-up (in-person borrowing) or remotely (online through the Universal Catalog).
