ACP Journal Club Search Strengths

  • Commentary that puts each study into clinical perspective

    • Evaluation of each study’s strengths and weaknesses.

  • Filter to narrow range of results

    • Familiar EBM filters include: Therapeutics, Etiology, Diagnosis, Prognosis, and EBM Trends

    • Clinical Prediction Guide Filter

      • Retrieve articles to help clinicians predict probable future events.

    • Economics Filter

      • Retrieve articles on the economics of a therapy, treatment or procedure.

    • Quality Improvement Filter

      • Retrieve articles that focus on issues relating to Quality Improvement.

ACP Journal Club Search Cautions

  • No uniform subject headings; must search by keywords

  • Use synonyms to find articles with similar terms i.e.  diabetes, diabetic, etc

  • Needs a truncation symbol to find plurals or alternate endings. For example, neoplasm? to find neoplasm or neoplasms

  • Must use  Boolean operators “OR” / “AND” for combining  multiple similar terms
