Ten Tips for Mastering PubMed's New Design
- Find It@MCG Button--displays in the top right of the abstract format for a single record display; and below the abstract when viewing multiple records on one screen.

- Full Text--know the difference in Full Text, Free Full Text, and Abstract Limits.
- The links to full text limits will only include citations that have a publisher supplied link. It may not include links to a specific library’s holdings. [Use Find It@MCG button]
- The links to free full text limits will include citations with free full text access to articles. Note: Citations are not restricted to journals in PubMed Central.
- The abstracts limit will retrieve only citations with an abstract. Most citations to articles published before 1975 do not include abstracts.
- Limits--can be activated on the Advanced search page. An additional link to change or remove limits appears on the upper right of the search result screen.
- Limit settings for Author, Journal, or Publication Date will become a part of the search strategy.
-
These limits must be re-set for each search.
- Printer Option--has been removed from the Send To menu; use the print option on the computer’s browser.
- Auto Suggest--is a new feature activated in the search box. Based on the terms entered, some of the most popular PubMed searches will be displayed in a menu.
- More PubMed Articles--has been changed to “Titles with your search terms” in the result display.
- Citation Display--is no longer available. In the abstract display supplemental information such as Publication Types, MeSH Terms, Substances, and Grant Support can be viewed by expanding the plus symbol.
- “Also try”--provides alternate searching terms.
- PubMed's Related Articles--are found below the PMID when viewing multiple records. In a single record the Related Articles are located on the right side of the page.
- NCBI Personal Account--will allow saving of search results as well as search strategies. The My NCBI link is located on the top right-hand corner of the page.
