Find It@MCG Frequently Asked Questions

Find it at MCG button graphic

What is the Find It@MCG button?

Clicking on the Find It@MCG button in article citation databases will bring up a menu of choices for obtaining articles.  The Find It@MCG button is customized for MCG affiliated users and the specific citation. A context-sensitive Find It@MCG menu opens when you click the button within a Greenblatt Library subscribed database.

What does context-sensitive mean?

Context-sensitive means that the citation link or search looks for the exact article and responds with MCG subscribed, open access, or GALILEO-provided content when available. In most cases, there are fewer steps to finding your article than without the Find It@MCG button.

Is Find It@MCG a full-text resource?

Find It@MCG allows users to obtain full-text in some format. When an online full-text article is available, the Find It@MCG menu lists one or more full-text resources.

When online full-text is not found via Find It@MCG, an option is to search the Library online catalog, GIL@MCG; the Library may own the article in print. The journal is automatically searched; if found, you must check the record to see if we have the wanted volume.

What if there is no online full text and no print in the catalog?

The Library's document delivery system, McGILL, is the third service. You must register once for McGILL. Once logged in, Find It@MCG will fill in many of the blanks in the document delivery form automatically.

What dates are covered in Find It@MCG?

Each MCG Library online journal subscription includes beginning and ending dates of coverage with no two titles having the same range. If the wanted citation falls within subscribed full-text coverage, the Find It@MCG menu will display online options. When the citation falls out of dates covered, the online catalog and document delivery will display.

Nothing happens when I click on the Find It@MCG button. What do I do?

Disable the pop-up blocker in your browser while using Find It@MCG.

Many journals do not cover the recent months or years - why?

Find It@MCG provides the largest amount of full-text available. Open access and GALILEO-provided full text may have limitations on current issues. Current MCG Library subscriptions include recent issues.

When using Find It@MCG off-campus, how do I get online full-text?

To be recognized as MCG-affiliated, you must either go through the Library proxy server the first time you select full-text (the username is mcgproxy and the password is the current GALILEO password) or you must download the VPN client from MyMCG Campus Resources downloads, then launch it each time you need Library resources. Your NetID/password are needed for logging into the VPN client.

Is Find It@MCG equal to Find It@UGA, Find It@Emory, Find It@GSU, or Find It@GT?

Though the Georgia research universities consortium participates in several agreements, each institution has unique subscriptions also. Therefore the Find It button may provide different resources for each institution.
