MCG and MCGHI Library Privileges
Full library privileges are extended to all faculty, staff, and students of MCG and MCGHI with a library barcode. Faculty, staff and students may obtain a library barcode by presenting their current MCG or MCGHI picture identification badge at the Library Information Center.
University System Library Privileges
The resources of the University System Libraries in Georgia are available to all faculty, staff, and students of the the University System of Georgia via the GIL Express service.
Unaffiliated Individuals and Institutions
Unaffiliated individuals may purchase a membership with a picture ID and a local Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) address. Unaffiliated institutions must have a CSRA address. Memberships are nontransferable. A maximum of three books may be checked out at a time under terms of the membership. All other materials must be used in the library.
Annual Membership $100 per year
Institutional Membership $500 per year
Circulation Periods
Books-four weeks with up to 4 renewals
Bound journals-three days with one renewal
Unbound journals-one day
Audiovisuals-three days
History Reference-three days
Renewals
Books may be renewed in person, by phone or via GIL prior to them becoming overdue. Overdue materials must be returned to the library, the fine paid, and then they may be checked out again.
Holds
Holds may be placed on materials which are checked out by contacting the Library Information Center at 721-3441. Library staff will notify the requestor when the material becomes available and may be picked up at the Library Information Center. Books and journals will be held for three days for pickup.
Fax Service
Fax Service is available at the Library Information Desk for MCG faculty, staff and students during library operating hours. All users must have a current ID badge.
Fax Costs
Fax messages with MCG or MCGHI ID

Faxes over 10 pages will have a per page surcharge
Payment for fax transactions can be made by check or cash
Overdues
$.50 per item per day
A courtesy reminder will be sent the day an item becomes overdue. Checkout privileges will be suspended upon accrual of unpaid fines. Failure to receive an overdue or fine notice will not be considered cause for canceling a fine.
Lost Materials
Lost or misplaced materials should be reported promptly to the library. Fines will not continue to be charged once the loss is reported. Both the library and the borrower should do a thorough search for the book.
The lost material fee will be charged if the book has not been found in two weeks. The fee is the replacement cost of the book (according to current Amazon.com listing) plus a processing fee of $15 ($35 for GILExpress books) plus the overdue fine.. Refunds cannot be made for any lost and paid materials which are subsequently located and returned.
Outstanding Library Obligations
Students - The MCG Registrar's Office will hold all student records, diplomas, and registration materials until all Library obligations have been cleared.
Faculty and staff - If materials have not been returned and fines not paid, an invoice will be sent to the department of the borrower.
Unaffiliated borrowers - Library obligations will be invoiced and the borrower will be held responsible for paying any and all charges incurred by the Library, including attorney's fees, collection agency fees, etc., associated with the recovery of materials, replacement costs of materials, overdue fines and / or any other fees owed to the Library.
