- Open an
EndNote Library (*.enl).
- References
> New (New Reference window opens).
- Select
Reference Type (journal article, book, book chapter,
dissertation, etc.).
- Enter or
edit data in highlighted [boxed] fields (Fig. 3).
- Close
Reference window to save data to the EndNote Library.
Figure 3 is an example of transcribing a journal article
reference into the EndNote Library placebos:

Use the pull-down menu at Reference Type
to select the appropriate template.
Each Reference has fields for specific
information: author, title, year (of publication), volume,
abstract, etc.
Enter as much information as possible into
the fields. Highlighting a field will display a box surrounding
that field; add or edit data to that field as necessary.
Press TAB to highlight the next field;
press SHIFT+TAB to highlight the previous field.
Each reference has a 64,000-character limit,
with a 32,000-character limit for one field.
TIP: press Enter after entry of each author name in Author
field.
