Sorting References in a Reference Window

By default, EndNote Libraries are initially sorted by the first author’s last name, year, and record number. To change the default setting:

  1. Open an EndNote Library (*.enl).
  2. References > Show All (to display all references in a Library)
  3. References > Sort Options (Sort Options box opens)(Fig.13):
  • Use the pull-down menus to prioritize the sorting by field.
  • Use the icon with each field to designate ascending or descending order:

- Ascending icon – to slope upward, left to right (A-Z, most recent first).

- Descending icon – to slope downward, left to right (Z-A, earliest first).

  1. Click Sort button.
