Access to Greenblatt Library online resources and full
text databases are authenticated through a Library-maintained proxy server. For
reference
assistance using these resources, please contact your liaison librarian
or the Library Information Center @ 706-721-3441.
- The Library's proxy server is called while using either the MCG
Subscribed resources page or the Library E-publications pages off-campus
- A popup window will open prompting you to login. If you do not know
what the password is, follow the instructions on the login page to obtain the
current password.
- Once logged in, you will be proxied to your desired resource.
- The original window will remain open should you decide to switch resources.
Browsers The following browsers are supported for use with the Library's proxy
server:
*Internet Explorer 6.x.xpsp2 is only available if you install Windows
XP Service Pack 2, it can not be downloaded separately.
Identifying your Browser and Version
To identify which browser and which version you have open your browser
and click:

A popup window will appear displaying the browser's name and version.
TroubleShooting Generally all of the web browsers
have their default settings set properly to use the Library's proxy
server. There are several third-party firewall, antivirus, and anti-spyware
applications which may change the browser's default settings and may break
the proxy connection. If you are experiencing any problems connecting to a
resource you may want to verify that the browser's settings are correct.
Cookies In order to use the Library's proxy server your browser will
need to be set up to accept cookies.
From your browser, follow these instructions:
Internet
Explorer 6.x and 6.x.xpsp2
- Click - Tools
- Internet Options
- Privacy tab
- Custom Level
- Scroll down to Cookies
- Enable "allow cookies that are stored on your computer"
- Enable "allow per-session cookies (not stored)"
Netscape 7.x and
Mozilla 1.x.x
- Click - Edit
- Preferences
- Privacy & Security
- Cookies
- "Allow cookies based on privacy settings"
- Click the "View" button, verify that settings are set
to medium
- "Accept cookies normally"
Mozilla Firefox 1.x
- Click - Tools

- Enable "Allow sites to set cookies"
JavaScript The Library's proxy server uses
javascripts for part of its proxying function. As a result,
JavaScript should be enabled in your browser.

- Scroll down to Scripting of Java applets (near the bottom
of the list)
- Click on the enable button
Netscape 7
- Click - Edit

- Check "Enable Java"

Popup Blockers The Library's proxy server uses a
popup window to authenticate you into the system and to proxy for your
desired resource. Some third-party pop-up blockers and web browsers may
prevent the authentication windows from opening. To allow the proxy server
to function properly with web browsers with integrated popup blockers and
standalone popup blockers include the following servers in allowed list of
the applications:
- library.mcg.edu
- lib.mcg.edu
- libezproxy.mcg.edu
Unsupported Browsers If you desire to use a browser other
than one of the ones provided above you may do so but we will not be able
to provide you with support for any browser other than the ones listed
above.
AOL Users The AOL browser does not support the settings needed for the proxy
configuration. We recommend:
- Installing one of the browsers listed above on
your computer.
- This must be the standard version of the browser; it cannot
be "as provided by AOL."
- Connect as usual to AOL.
- Minimize the AOL browser, and start up the browser you downloaded in
the first step
