Press the Keyword Search tab to search for keywords, anywhere or within
certain fields of GIL records. The multi-line Keyword Search interface
allows for a complex search of different groups of keywords.
The search modifiers operate the same in Keyword Search as in Quick Search,
but are labeled differently:

Quick Search

| all of these |
find all words |
| as a phrase |
search for a phrase |
| any of these |

The multi-line search allows a search for keyword "prostate" anywhere
in a record and combining it (with "AND" radio button) with a keyword
search in the Title field for "cancer":
While the Keyword Search interface searches for keywords within fields like
"Title" and "Subject," some fields are not oriented towards
keyword searching, like "ISSN," "ISBN," and "Publisher:
Date" - terms for those fields should be entered completely in left-to-right
order.
Other Keyword Search advantages:
- set the number of records displayed per page (10,25,50, or 100)
- "NOT" allows exclusion of a term from a search (Note: applying
"NOT" may exclude records that include desired search terms).
- "Narrow Your Search" with limits by location, type of material,
format of material, year, and language. "Search limits in effect!"
warning appears above the search box when limits are applied to a search.
Keyword Search disadvantages:
- cannot browse through fields like author, subject, and title
- no Journal Title (keyword) field
- no Quick Limits may be applied for:
Last 10 Years, Videorecordings, and Journals
- search results are not relevancy ranked
